Bio

Dorothy started sewing as a child, making doll clothes. She has sewn most of her own clothes for since high school. When she discovered that her garment remnants could be used to create fiber collages, she was hooked. Any fabric or material that can be sewn might appear in her art quilts. She uses collage and stitches details with thread.

Dorothy’s art has been juried into textile art shows such as Visions, Sacred Threads and Art Quilt Elements, as well as fine art shows, and is in private collections throughout the United States.

Before retiring, Dorothy spent 40 years as a corporate attorney specializing in intellectual property licensing and antitrust.

Dorothy Raymond is a Juried Artist Member Coordinator for Studio Art Quilt Associates. In that role, she encourages SAQA members to become Juried Artists and has spent a lot of time trying to make the application process as clear and transparent as possible. She also acts as an advocate for Juried Artist members to the SAQA Board.

Dorothy served on the SAQA Board from 2011 to 2017, then chaired the Development Committee. She has also led some special project teams for SAQA.
